Abstract
The sufficient asset base and its efficient use are a prerequisite for assuring the enforcement of obligatory and optional competencies autonomous regions. Property owned self-governing regions is used to provide public goods and afford opportunity for their own business activities. The business activities of self-governments support its development by compensating the lack in necessary activities in the region and contribute to increasing competitive environment and contribute to its economic prosperity. The paper aims to analyse the structure, the volume of assets and its use in obtaining additional resources in the self-governments in Slovakia in the period 2008 to 2012. The results confirm the positive relationship between the volume of no-current assets and income from property ownership and business activities of Slovak self-governments in 2008 and 2012. It could be said about the positive impact of asset ownership Slovak self-governments in obtaining additional resources to cover their activities in analysing period.
