Abstract


Technologies are the most pervasive force influencing human lives today. It is common to think of technologies in terms such as machines, computers, or highly advanced electronic gadgets. However, technologies embrace a lot more than just machines. Any technology consists of four interdependent, co-determining and equally important components: hardware, software, brainware and know – how. The efficiency of investments into technologies depends strongly on users, their motivation, interest and proper education. Technologies, especially information and communication technology (ICT) and their applications are a critical resource for all areas of human activity, including economic and business sphere. The trends show that rapidly growing firms are increasing their investments into ICT. The businessmanagers, not the ICT specialists, decide which activities receive funding and develop metrics for evaluating the performance of the investments. Therefore, the businessmanagers need a basic grounding inmanaging and using information technology and information systems. A manager must know how to mesh technology and people to create effective work. Presented paper reflects on these facts and solves the problems of the importance and use of information and communication technologies in future managers’ education.We are dealing with an innovativemanner of education in the field of computer science and ICT application. In the paper we present results of our research in the field of secondary school graduates information literacy by questionnaire survey, we also describe our experience in teaching and discuss reasons for the knowledge body and methods which had been implemented into the subject Informatics II at the Faculty of Economics, Technical University of Košice. We consider knowledge, the implementation of ICT and innovations to be the key factors of success that can ensure economic growth for individuals, companies even for whole countries. It is not different in the school environment.
